June has been such a busy month for us at Fairby. We were invited to our local community hall to enjoy the Queens Platinum Jubilee celebrations. The hall was full of laughter and singing as we sang along with Miss Vintage, who sang some lovely old and new songs which we all new. Some of us were up dancing on the dance floor, whilst others sat and soaked up the atmosphere. There was plenty of sandwiches, cupcakes and other snacks for us to feast on. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their time there and are very grateful for everyones generosity in making the day such a huge success.
Not only that, but we also held our own Jubilee Party. We decorated the home Jubilee style - of course, and residents made and decorated flags and their very own crown. We had such a lovely time together celebrating this remarkable historic event. Please see our gallery section for photos and videos.
We have started to see our Nursery Children again from Dimples Day Nursery. We pop down to see them this time to watch and interact with the children in their own environment. We love seeing the children running around full of energy and giggling all the time. Hopefully soon they will be able to come and visit us where they can play in our lounge area.
We always keep a look out for anything going on in the community and were given the opportunity to watch a Play at the Hall opposite us. Sacha took those residents who were interested in seeing the play over to the Hall to see the Play acted out by the local Hartley Dramatic Society. A very well put together play indeed.
At the beginning of July, we held an event to celebrate The Salter Centenary. In 1922 Ada Salter became mayor of Bermondsey and Alfred Salter was elected MP.
This wonderful couple devoted their lives to the environment, housing and public health. They transformed a deprived inner-city area into a healthy green oasis.
For those who would like to know a little bit more, please visit www.londonclarion.org.uk where you will find some more history of The Salters and the link to Fairby Grange.
We had 20 visitors and gave each of them a tour of the ground floor of Fairby, showing them the various rooms which still have the beams, fire places which are seen in various photos from many years ago. A display of photos, maps and other relevant historic pieces were on display for all to see.
We are planning our yearly summer fete for August 13th where we will have a singer, BBQ, raffle, tombola, The great Fairby Bake Off, guess the name of a huge dog (donated by Nicki) and plenty of other stalls.
Also coming up is our second Boat Trip of this year. Debbie has now successfully passed her Skipper examinations and will be skippering the boat for the day taking us along the River Medway.
