January / February 2020

At Fairby, we don’t let the cold weather stop us. We have been out for coffee and cake (of course), out to our local community centre for Memory Café, where we get to sing, chat and have a coffee and biscuit.

The nursery children have been in to see us and share all their Christmas day stories with us.

We celebrated Burns nights with a Scottish entertainer and a yummy Scottish 3 course meal. Thank you Bob, it was a real treat.

The residents have been making little bags full of chocolates for Valentines day, although I think a few chocolates have been eaten along the way.

Christmas 2019

Christmas was such a wonderful busy time for us all at Fairby. We were invited to our local luncheon club for a special Christmas lunch. We love going here once a month to meet up with our friends in the community to catch up on the goings on in Hartley.

Mel arranged for an Elvis singer to come and entertain us. He certainly did that!! We all joined in with the singing of his famous songs and never laughed so much watching Elvis dance to us all.

Christmas day was lovely, the sun was shining, the food was fantastic, great company and later in the afternoon we had a singer perform for us. A little song and dance helps the Christmas dinner goes down a treat.

What a lovely way to end the year and here’s to an exiting New Year.

November / December 2019

This year is passing us by so quickly. During November we made little Christmas Wreaths for our bedroom doors. We also popped out to the ‘White Swan’ in Ash for lunch. The meal was lovely and the atmosphere was just right. Another place we will certainly be visiting again in the New Year.

We couldn’t wait until December to start putting up our decorations. It took a whole day to decorate the Homes’ reception, lounge and dining room. We even roped in help from visiting relatives, which was a real help. We had Christmas music on and had a great laugh.

During December, we were lucky to be invited to Longfield Academy School again. The children entertained us and put on a great spread of Christmas food. We have also been invited to ‘Our Lady of Hartley’ Primary school in Hartley to watch their Christmas play. We are looking forward to seeing the children all dressed up for their special occasion.

We held our Christmas party on Saturday 7th December, where we had a singer entertain us, whilst eating lovely festive goodies and having a cheeky tipple or two. Our raffle of a Homemade Hamper, Homemade Fruit cake (thank you Mel) and a boozy hamper helped raise £399 for our Residents Fund. Many thanks to everyone who came to the party and to all the helpers that helped make the occasion such a lovely party for our residents and their families.

All that’s left to say for 2019 is - Everyone, Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. xx
